29. Beginning stages to editing (Title editing)

Aims:

  • Getting started completely with the editing
  • Making sure to add effects to the timeline and each shot so that there is evidence of continuity.

This blog is going to evidence the first stages to the editing of the music video.

To begin during the opening scene I have changed the title and made it look more unique and structured to fit the style of the music video, I need to make sure that I factor in as much continuity as possible and making sure that it makes sense for the audience to understand.

This below is the beginning title which is being gradually staggered into the screen as well as coming is as the tune behind begins to play. This level of continuity will increase audience satisfaction and will make them more invested in what they are watching.

‘HALF’ – the opening to the title and tucked into the corner of the clip. Basic font with similar size as the rest of the title.

‘THE’ – Same as the image above where they are both the same, adds to the levels of continuity and the synchronisation of the clip.

‘WORLD’ – For this part I input the word with a different and font which looked more italic and then added then edited the curve on the word by going to the effect controls on the tab labelled ‘WORLD’ and then changing the wave warp – Wave height and width to the suited size so that I could add the animated world and the word ‘AWAY’.

Wave height: 200

Wave length: 1541

Direction: 90 degrees.

‘AWAY’ – I had the same concept for the word ‘AWAY’ however the other way around, meaning it would line up under the ‘animated earth’ giving that feel that the title is warping the whole way around the earth and connecting with the idea of ‘being half the world away’. It is the same font and size as the ‘WORLD’ however it was instead under this way I was able to wrap it around. In order to create this I used the Wave warp tool in order to create the curve.

Wave warp settings:

Wave height: 200

Wave width: 939

Direction: 90 degrees

Finally adding the last parts to the animated earth into the centre of the title. This helps to add to the mise-en-scene of the clip and gives the title a more modern and exotic feel compared to something which Oasis would have produced in the late 90’s early 2000’s.

Overall I am pleased with the start which I have made to the music video and the editing, However certain feedback for this beginning element of the music video included:

  • Making sure the font is all the same to make it look more clean.
  • Make sure the font and spacing of title is spread out enough to grab the attention of the audience and to look more appealing.

Key takeaways:

  • during the early stages of editing this clip I have been able to develop skills in order to create an appealing title and making sure that I can use the wave warp tool to good effectivity as well as the rest of the other tabs under the effects control panel, like fading in and out on the shot into the next.
  • I have also been able to layers the wording so that they fade into the screen on the beat of the opening to the music. This means that I am able to show continuity and levels of production development in the opening to the music video.
