26. Re-shoot ideas problems and resolutions

Aims:

  • Create a list of different shots and other ideas ideas which need to be incorporated into the music video.
  • Come up with new ideas that can be added to the music video.

To begin, I spoke with my teacher about the different ideas and we went through the rough cut. during the meeting we went over the different ideas and the overall understanding and the journey for the music video.

Some of the issue we noticed with the rough cut:

  • during the end parts and filming, the singer has glasses on which are reflective and therefore mean we can see what is going on behind the camera which is a problem as it shows some of the parts of the production which i don’t want to be shown as well as adding to the setting which could give away different locations or problems.
  • As well there is a very minimalistic range of shots which need to be adapted so that there can be a variety and add context to the journey of the story.
  • Some other problems I will face include needing to get both my actors together and will need to try make sure they are available, this could mean we face problems with getting the reshoot done to the standard which match’s up with the previous shoot.
  • Moreover reviewing my rough cut I will make sure to adapt certain areas where I’m adding to much context of the shot and reduce it and vice versa where I add more context in other areas, this will keep the audience entertained and engaged throughout as well as creating powerful content.

For the reshoot we came up with ideas of re-arranging the order and making sure that some of the shots are more influential and impactful, and so that the rest of the music video has a similar journey which can be obvious to the audience and flow naturally.

From the rough cut, the order will be as follows:

  1. Begin the music video with the final shots of the rough cut
  2. Then have a fade into the flashback of what was a previous friendship, for this I will use a video from my reshoot or find photos which one of my actors could be looking at and then reflecting on their past friendship.
  3. After this I would add in more of the performance with some cuts to the guitar playing and lip-syncing performance
  4. Then I would cut back to the talking over the phone and messaging part before one goes to bed and the other gets ready for the day.
  5. Then cut back to the guitar and performance
  6. Then I will add in the travel and arriving at the door of her friends house and then the music video will end with a pan to the sky with and edit of the words ‘HALF THE WORLD AWAY’.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • The main key takeaways and things to note from the conversation with my teacher included making sure that I have a clear and obvious journey and storyline for the music video.
  • Furthermore, I need to make sure that all my actors show more enthusiasm and enjoyment which helps to piece the storyline together and make sure that its more fluid.
  • Overall, from doing this blog i have become more aware of the changes that need to be made as well as the process of getting a reshoot done.
