Costumes

  • 1st Photoshoot: Golfing trousers, Blue Polo and Green Polo, golf glove and golf shoes.
  • 2nd Photoshoot: Baggy jeans, Blue Polo, Black Round neck Sweatshirt, Cap
  • 3rd Photoshoot: Fred Perry shirt, Light Blue Baggy Jeans, Adidas Spezials and a Lyle and Scott gilet.

Mood board On Blog 11 has a few front cover images which show a few ideas of modelling and exemplary poses as shown below. I feel as though I am most likely to choose poses from either the vogue magazine at the bottom or the FASHION magazine in the top right. However, I may wish to vary it and make it look like the other magazine front covers.

The mise-en-scene of my front cover will be very plain and boring, i wont have any props for most of the photoshoot. However, for the golf photoshoot which i am involved in, the mise-en-scene will include a golf club to make it obvious to the audience or the targeted people what they are buying.

Finally, these photoshoots will happen in a studio as i feel as though it makes it easier to produce a cleaner and more visibly pleasing product. I feel as though using a studio background i will be able to produce something similar to the GQ or the ETHOS magazines. A less is more approach is what i am aiming for in order to create a more visibly pleasing product.

10. My Ideas – Mood Boards

Aims:

To reflect upon my research to help inform my planning

To plan ideas for my magazine to present to a focus group

For this blog I am going to be focusing on the Mood boards which are going to be relevant to the magazine front cover which I wish to provide.

Firstly, the images above is a collection of the men’s fashion magazines which could give me guidance and ideas as they provide similar correlations to the magazine covers which i am going to make.

For me I chose men’s fashion is it the most relatable to myself and is something which I can work with whilst giving myself the best opportunity to succeed . I also feel as though it is easily relatable to other people in the public, mainly targeted at a young male adult/teen audience.

Hopefully these magazine covers will be able to help influence a magazine cover and further decisions in the future.

This next slide was a mix between men and women lifestyle magazines. I chose to mix both genders so that I am able to gain an understanding of how both gender magazines targeted an audience. I feel as though the men’s lifestyle magazines aren’t as packed as the women’s lifestyle magazines. This means that people that are attracted to women’s lifestyle magazines tend to read some of the cover lines in order to be fully attracted to it, whereas the men’s lifestyle magazines are little more photo focused and less cover line focused meaning the specific target audience become attracted as soon as they see it instead of reading it.

This therefore means that when i am creating my magazine covers I would have to factor in the idea that my target audience wont read as much of my cover lines and rather just look at the front cover so i will have to make it as appealing to the audience as possible.

This next slide is an example of the possible ideas and ways I could set out my mastheads. A common theme that I have noticed is that most of the models heads are either in front or behind the Magazine masthead, this is something I would consider in order to use as much of my model as possible.

I have also noticed that with mastheads there tends to be a certain house style, for example MENS HEALTH magazines are always in red, as well MENS FAHION tend to have the masthead in the top right corner layered one above the other. For me this is something to consider as I would have to use a specific house style in order to make my piece stand out from the rest.

Finally, this last slide is a mix of the different fonts which could be used to attract an audience based on face value. I feel as though something which is different and unique is more likely to stand out from anything too vague. so the more unique and different the better. For example the fonts above.

8. Case Study 1

Aims:

To analyse the first magazine from my chosen genre e.g. Music and analyse the layout and design of them – front cover, contents page, double-page spread

To show an awareness of technical language, genre conventions and narrative techniques used to appeal to a specific target audience

My first research is on the music genre:

6. Evaluation of Preliminary Task

Aims:

To evaluate the process and outcome of your preliminary task.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK:

Things to improve –

  • Make the colours mix or keep them the same. Don’t have many different colours
  • Cover lines should be either similar or seasonal.
  • Don’t use page numbers.
  • No full stop/punctuation.
  • Make sure the cover lines can be relatable to other people.
  • Don’t repeat myself.
  • 2 colours. Golden, white and maybe black

REFLECTIONS ON FEEDBACK AND FINAL FRONT COVER:

For my Final Front Cover these were the changes I made.

  • I kept the colours to 2/3 these being orange, white and black
  • I removed all page numbers
  • Limited all punctuation. removed full stops and commas however left a question mark after a rhetorical question.
  • Made sure that some of the cover lines were relatable – but still need to think about the even wider audience.
  • removed any repetition within the front cover, for example “fears”

EVALUATION OF THE PROCESS AND OUTCOME:

Finally, to evaluate this preliminary front cover I would consider a few things which can be changed for future pieces.

Firstly, research in this piece was key, it meant that I was able to make simple adjustments such as adding drop shadow to most of the cover lines and the headings, as well other effects.

furthermore, the planning process helped to understand a layout in comparison to my target audience and how they might be interested to certain topics. Personally i believe that the planning process guided me making my certain decisions and have overall helped to complete a prelim front cover. For next time I will take more care on my editing and decision making when it comes to certain photos and styles.
