1 – First try with Photoshop

AIMS: TO EXPLORE PHOTOSHOP TOOLS AND EXPLORE YOUR CREATIVITY BY MOCKING UP A FRONT COVER USING A FOUND IMAGE.

Firstly, I searched for a picture of a person modelling. i found this one and chose it because i thought it had the most potential seeing as there was lots of spacing around the edges. enough space for cover lines, heading and other details.

I followed up by adding a heading. I went with this one ‘Open Mind’ so that i could create an clearer, more calming picture for my target audience. in this example my target audience are fashion gurus and stylists.

Next i moved onto adding a issue and date. This is so that the reader knows how up to date they might be with the latest trends, styles and looks. A date is also key to helping the reader understand more about the things happening at that period in time.

Next, I added a barcode and price. All magazine front covers have barcodes as this is what’s used to buy the product as well as a price. In this first example i went for a fairly reasonable price of £2.99.

After that, I choose my first cover line. This cover line included different font, a different colour to the other words and a page number to help the reader locate this cover line. Firstly, the font. I trialled a few different ones in order to make sure i found the one which not only looked the best but also created a positive atmosphere when reading it. The colour of the text matched up with the gold watch on the wrist of the model, this meant that i was able to vary my options of colour and still make the cover line look appealing.

This next cover line included a range of different fonts as well as a completely different colour to the magazine. I decided that multiple fonts would be more interesting to look at and would most likely get more attention than only one font. This variation meant that trialling out new colours could also be possible. So i decided to go with Blue. Blue to me stood out more and meant that it would be more appealing to the eye when on a shelf.

Finally I added my last cover line to the newspaper front cover to try and fill the space between the bottom of the page and the feet of the model. Even though they ended up overlapping the use of the colour blue meant that you could see the wording clearly.

So far i am pleased with the attempt i made on my first go of using photoshop and have definitely learnt new skills which i will carry forward. However, I still need to work on many things, such as filing in all the space on the page as well as making the front cover look appealing for my target audience.
